Alex's Many Faces

We took Alex back to the westsiiide this weekend. That's gangsta term for Western MD. He defintely gets a lot of attention there. It's really funny to see my Dad with him. I don't think I've ever seen my Dad talk to or hold a baby until now. And he's hilarious with him too. I think my Grandma wants to steal him. As soon as we pulled into her house she was telling us she would watch him while we went to Wal-mart. We didn't even want to go to Wal-mart! LOL. She just wanted him all to herself! Alex loves to lay on her chest, probably because she has a lot more padding than me. As soon as she put him up there, he falls right alseep. I try to put him on my chest and he flails around until I take him back down. I also taught Abe the art of "mushroom hunting" this weekend. Around this time of year, there's a particular kind of mushroom that grows wild around the woods near my house, and my Dad has always fried them up and ate them. I love them! So, we set out in the woods below my house, and walked for about an hour looking for these little things, and all we found was a dead deer and some ferns. My Dad came back with like 80 of them though. So, later that night we fried some up with some egg and flour, and of course Abe would't eat them! I don't blame him though. They look kind of gross to the untrained eye. Just take my word for it though--they are delicious, and they've never killed me. On a side note--I has a phtot session with Alex this morning when we woke up, and he made so many different faces. He's a little ham for the camera!

Here come the bins

Alex has started growing out of some of his newborn clothes, so I started putting them away in bins. It was kind of sad at first, because I have to put his cute little clothes away, but I know it just means he's healthy and growing. I guess it gets easier to put away their clothes as you do it more often, but this is the first time I've had to "retire" some of his outfits. Oh well, they're ready for baby # 2, unless of course baby # 2 is a girl. Don't worry though, that's not happening any time soon. We're thinking anywhere from 2- 4 years. We'll see how it goes with this one first. LOL. I can defintely tell that he's growing though. He's really long and slender. I wonder if he'll be tall and skinny like my Dad. Even though I'm putting away his newborn clothes, he's still not wearing 3-6 months yet. I've found some outfits that are 0-3 months and they seem to fit him best, but a lot of stores and brands don't carry that size. Carter's has it, and some of the brands at Target, but it's been harder to find that size than 3-6 months. I just can't believe how fast he's growing!

A post from Alex's dad...

Ashley doesn't know that I'm posting this, so don't tell her! But I just wanted to say hello to everyone and give a shout out...aren't "shout out's" so 90's esque?

Alex watched American idol and Hell's Kitchen with us last night. I think he really enjoyed the Broadway songs and performances. And of course he loved hearing Gordon Ramsey get every other word bleeped out. I don't know if any of you were paying attention to the show last night, but Gordon Ramsey told Jean-Philippe to "Take your tie off! Open your shirt! Walk straight....you donut!"

OMG Gordon Ramsey called Jean-Philippe a donut! I love it.

Also, Alex has now learned the art of "Cat-napping". We'll feed him, he'll go to sleep, then 10 minutes later he looks up at us with his eyes wide open. I guess he doesn't want to miss out on any of the action?

Cabin Fever!!!

I love spending this time with Alex, but I am starting to get a little crazy wth cabin fever! It's not so bad now that it's getting warmer outside. I did take the baby to Target for a little while today and then we walked around the neighborhood. He slept the whole time of course. He usually wakes up right about the time I go to make dinner, so I'm trying to cook with one hand and hold him with the other. LOL.Being home during the day, I'm starting to realize that there's nothing on!! I am getting a little addicted to Judge Joe Brown though. He just told some lady named Sharifa that she can do better. Imagine--a lady named Sharifa doing better! The guy's name is Larmont, so you can just imagine. On a side note--Alex is really trying to roll over recently. He'll push his leg off of the side of hs bassinet to try and help himself over. He has really strong legs. He loves to stand on our laps with us holding his hands. He can also completely hold his head up too, and he's really smiling alot. He was 8 lbs. 2 oz. at his 1 month appointment, so I'm curious to see what he'll be at his 2 month appointment on May 9.

Alex in his shorts...We're ready for his first summer!

visited daycare today...

So, I took Alex to meet his daycare provider, Ms. Thresa today. He slept through most of it. LOL. Big surprsie there, right? I can't believe I'll be back to the classroom in 2 more weeks! I'm so dreading it..number one, because I hate the thought of leaving the baby behind. Number 2-- the last 6 weeks of the school year in a middle school can be so crazy. The kids are done. The teachers are even more done. And it's hot..really hot.And there's 30 pre-teens crammed in a tiny room, and not all of them have started using deoderant yet. Enough said. Ms. Thresa is very nice though, and the other kids seem sweet. They were all very interested in seeing the baby, and I was very glad to see Ms. Thresa tell them not to touch the baby, because the baby can't get their germs. That was somewhat reassuring. Alex will be the littlest baby there by a long shot. I think the next kid in age to him i 18 months. Ms. Thresa is a perfectly normal lady, but I wish I could just strap Alex to my back and go to work, like the indians did.

Smiling baby...

Alex has been starting to smile a lot today! It's so cute! So of course I took a picture, because that's what I do. I'm a little obsessed with photographing my son. He's been really alert lately, and awake for longer periods of the day. He looks right as us and follows our voice with his eyes. When Abe comes home from work and says his name,he looks over in Abe's direction. It's really amazing to watch him grow and change on a daily basis. I wonder what he'll look like in 6 months,a year? He's starting to look like me, but it changes by the minute. He still has my chin though. I looked up personality traits for Pisces and according to that he will be imaginative, compassionate, selfless, and intuitive. On the dark side, Pisces are also idealistic, stoic and secretive. I'm a Picses as well, and I think those descriptions are relatively accurate for me as well. I guess time will tell, and he'll be his own person like everyone else. Right now, he has a pretty laid back personality.
