Alex's first Christmas..followed by Alex's first stomach flu!

img_2113

I know it's been forever since I wrote anything, and you are all thinking I have no excuse, since Abe and I have been off of work since December 23rd, BUT all 3 of us are finally recovering from a very bad bout of the stomach flu! So much has happened since my last post,so I'll break it down by day for you.

Christmas Eve: Abe was working all day, and Alex and I were both home, so we just hung out at the house together and played all day. Around 3 we headed down to Abe's mom's and then to a children's mass at Sacred Heart. It was really nice, but SUPER crowded! We were very lucky to be able to squeeze into a seat. Alex was so well-behaved. He actually fell asleep about halfway through and slept through the end of it. I was very much relieved! Abe joined us about halfway through the service as well, somehow managing to find us in the standing room only church. We then headed over to Abe's Mom's and had a feast.

Christmas Day: Alex woke up around his usual time (being only 9 months old, he wasn't in hurry to open up his presents he didn't even know he was getting! LOL) Abe and I opened his presents for him. We tried to get him to rip the paper once we started a tear for him, but he was uninterested and kept crawling away! He got a dancing tower, whch is probably one of his favorite toys so far, a push toy to help him learn to walk, and a baby grand piano (Alex really loves instruments--he's obsessed with the xylophone Melinda gave us). He also got some clothes, feeding items, sippy cups and a kid's ice pack for those falls that I know are coming with his first steps being just around the corner. We also got him some personalized rubber labels to put on his sippy cups at daycare and such. Abe and I also opened out presents to one another. His "big" present being a GPS navigation system and mine being a winter acket and a beautfiul necklace with a little boy charm and Alex' aquamarine birthstone. After packing frantically and running out the door around 9:30 AM, we went to Abe's mom's, ate breakfast and watched the chaos unfold as the kids tore into all of their presents. Alex got so many nice things there! I couldn't begin to name them all! We rushed out of there around 1:30 PM and drove the 3  hours to visit my family. We arrived and immediately opened our gifts before my Dad had to be out the door to work by 5! Alex once again got many, many nice gifts--too many to name! My grandparents came to visit later that night and brought him even more stuff! We went to bed that night exhausted but so grateful for all of the nice things Alex got from his family members and all of the nice things we were able to provide for him and for each other.

Fast forward to Saturday night 12/27: Alex wakes up in the middle of the night throwing up. Only does it once, so we are thinking it's probably from too much excitement that day. Uh-oh!

Sunday-Today: We come home with big plans to send Alex off to daycare for the week and accomplish so many tasks around house, especially cleaning our closets and painitng Abe's Mom's kitchen for her. We send Alex to daycare Monday, but I wake up feeling pretty crappy. I spend the day pretty sick and in bed most of the day, while Abe tries to clean one of the downstairs closets. In my haze of sickness I attempt to help him, and we get a little bit accoplished before I am too sick to do anythin else. Tuesday, we keep Alex home because he was sick at daycare the day before--I feel a little better, but Abe feels terrible. Wednesday, Ms. Joanna, our daycare provider calls--she is sick (surprise, surprise). It doesn't matter anyway though, Alex is still too sick to make it to daycare. We take him to the doctor and wait 2 hours for them to tell us everyone has a stomach bug and give him pedialyte every half hour in a syringe, he'll get better soon. Thursday--we all feel a little better, so we got some cleaning  and laundry done. It was much needed!

Weekend--Running around and then Abe'm Mom's 60th borthday party today. It was a surprise and I think she was definitely surprised!!! We all chipped in to get her a digital camera, so she can take lots of pictures of her now 5 grandchildren! So tomorrow it's back to the norm. Oh and Alex will be 10 months old tomorrow! Can you believe it??? *sigh* Some pics below..I'll put together a 9 month/christmas slide show later this week to show them all.
